The first episode of NXT hit the WWE Network airwaves Thursday night with a huge main event pitting Finn Balor and Hideo Itami against The Ascension.
A rematch of one of the headline bouts from Takeover: R Evolution, the two teams looked to put their issues behind them once and for all. Would Konnor and Viktor make what may very well be their final NXT appearance a successful one, or would Itami and Balor send NXT's greatest packing with a consecutive loss?
Speaking of consecutive losses, Leva "Blue Pants" Bates returned to the NXT Area, much to the delight of the fans. Would she again suffer an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Carmella, or would she summon her inner Barry Horowitz and upset the Princess of Staten Island?
With Baron Corbin slated to do battle with frequent victim CJ Parker, it was clear that Bull Dempsey would make his presence felt. Would it be enough to change the obvious outcome of the match?
The first day of the new year brought with it an episode of NXT focused on furthering storylines and wrapping up old rivalries, proving once again why the show is the best of WWE's current products.
