Why this week's flight cancellations were a good thing for travelers

For travelers waylaid by the nor'easter this week, the less-than-terrible outcome in New York added insult to injury.


More than 7,500 flights in and out of the U.S. were canceled ahead of the storm, and several cities in the Northeast issued travel bans to keep people off the roads. But before travelers bemoan what could seem like overblown precautions, they should consider the alternative.



"If airlines hadn't canceled, passengers could've been stuck on runways, stuck in terminals," said Chris Hills, air traffic analyst at Orbitz. "It's actually more beneficial that airlines did this so passengers could be at home." Read more...
