Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has finally confirmed his retirement from football, aged 39.
The former striker, who scored 183 goals in 369 appearances for the club as per Liverpool's official website, had not played a professional game since his last appearance for Thai side Muangthong United in February 2012.
However, the former England international often flirted with the idea of continuing his career in the paid ranks, training with Blackpool immediately upon his return to England from Thailand.
Thereafter, Fowler regularly refused to confirm or deny he was finished as a player, often leaving the door open for professional contract.
On Saturday, however, the 2000/01 FA Cup winner subtly announced he was hanging up his boots on Twitter, while commenting on Steven Gerrard’s decision to leave Liverpool.
Gutted about Steven, but what an unbelievable player... I'm officially hanging my boots up as from now...A sad day for me

He also turned out for Leeds, Manchester City, Cardiff and Blackburn Rovers, before a stint in Australia with North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory.
