The leader of an anti-Muslim movement in Germany resigned Wednesday after a Facebook picture of him posing as Hitler went viral and prompted heavy backlash.
Lutz Bachmann was the former chairman of Pegida, or the Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West, a far-right political movement that has become notorious in Europe for anti-immigrant ideals and frequent protests.
In the photo, Bachmann sports a toothbrush mustache and wears his hair combed straight and parted on the side, much like Hitler. Bachmann defended the picture to German newspaper Bild , which ran the photo on its front page.
