So many cathartic moments in film, television and music videos relied on slow motion in 2014 that you might have stopped noticing the technique altogether. There was Gone Girl, Guardians of the Galaxy , the intro to True Detective — even Beyoncé couldn't resist peppering her "Mine" music video with a little slo-mo drama

It's pretty clear that we had no need for speed in 2014.
