Cross-dressers break the mold of traditional Pakistan

Across conservative Pakistan, where extremists launch frequent attacks and many locals follow a strict interpretation of Islam, male cross-dressers face the challenge of balancing two identities.


Some leave their villages for the anonymity of a big city. They fear rejection from their families, and conceal their cross-dressing from neighbors and co-workers. Many of the men have common day jobs, but by night, perform as women at parties for extra money
