The red-hot Cleveland Cavaliers looked to keep their streak rolling on Tuesday night, when they took on the Detroit Pistons. The Cavs had won six straight in convincing fashion, but they faced a tricky test from the Pistons, who had dropped two straight after losing floor general Brandon Jennings to a ruptured Achilles.
Cleveland and Detroit were polar opposites, as only two players scored in double figures for the Cavs while six tallied at least 11 points for the Pistons. But Lebron James and Kyrie Irving didn't need much help, scoring 32 and 38, respectively, en route to a 103-95 victory. James also dished out seven assists to lead the team.
Big men Andre Drummond (12 points, 17 rebounds) and Greg Monroe (17 points, 12 rebounds) each had a double-double, and Jennings' replacement, D.J. Augustin, stepped up with 19 points and nine dimes, satisfying fantasy owners who had enough foresight to scoop him up.
Sitting comfortably in the No. 5 spot, Cleveland continues its ascent in the Eastern Conference standings, currently just 4.5 games behind the No. 2 Toronto Raptors. The loss puts Detroit 2.5 games out of the eighth and final playoff spot.
