Atletico Madrid will take a 2-0 advantage to Estadio Santiago Bernabeu for the second leg of the Copa del Rey round-of-16 tie with neighbors Real, following Wednesday's victory over their local rivals.
Raul Garcia opened the scoring from a penalty won off Sergio Ramos in the 58th minute, and Jose Gimenez rose to meet Gabi's corner-kick in the 76th to round out the scoring.
The match also marked Fernando Torres' return to his old club while, perhaps surprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo started on the bench for the guests.
Overall, the derby featured several standout performances, as well as one or two that were rather less impressive.
