The very best Mashable reads of 2014

Recently, I had a conversation with a friend who I consider well-read. I was looking for a new book, so I inquired into what she had loved lately.


"I don't have time to read entire books anymore," she explained. "But I can recommend about 20 #longreads that I've devoured in the past day or so." (Disclaimer: She didn't say "hashtag-longreads." I wouldn't be friends with someone who says "hashtag" out loud in normal conversation. I'm not a monster.)



The conversation was a little disheartening (I refuse to wave the "R.I.P. books" flag), but her point was sentient; much of our daily online reading and sharing is done in the form of longform articles.
