Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton's superhuman athleticism can help him get out of trouble, but sometimes he tries too hard to make something out of nothing.
During the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns, Newton did a great job of avoiding a sack on a 3rd-and-7 in Cleveland territory. However, he negated his great effort by throwing an ill-advised pass across his body on the run.
Browns defensive lineman Billy Winn made a heads-up play to come up with a diving interception and was ruled down where he caught the ball.
Had Newton thrown the ball away, Carolina would've faced an interesting decision. The Panthers could have attempted a 53-yard field goal, gone for it on fourth down or punted the football. Instead, the Browns took over at their own 44-yard line.
Cleveland took advantage of the excellent field position and got a field goal on the drive to cut Carolina's lead to 10-6.
