In the world of wearable fitness trackers, Fitbit is far and above leading the way
According to research firm Canalys, Fitbit accounts for 50% of the 2.7 million wearable bands, including fitness trackers and smart watches, that shipped worldwide in the first quarter of 2014.
Despite some recent bumps for the company, including a recall of its Fitbit Force band due to it causing rashes, Canalys credits Fitbit's handling of the incident for not dramatically slowing its sales.
Fitness tracker company Jawbone is also seeing a jump in sales, thanks to growth overseas, but Nike's share of the company dropped to 10% following the news it would stop producing its popular Fuelband to focus on its software platform. The company laid off the majority of its Fuelband team as part of strategy to work more closely with hardware makers such as Apple and its rumored iWatch. Read more...
