27th Anniversary of Larry Bird's Legendary Steal and Assist to Win Game 5

Larry Bird is one of the greatest shooters in NBA history, but one of his most iconic plays has nothing to do with him shooting the ball.

With the Boston Celtics trailing the Detroit Pistons by one point and only five seconds remaining in Game 5 of the 1987 Eastern Conference finals, Bird came up with a clutch play. Bird was able to steal the inbounds pass and dish it to Dennis Johnson, who made the game-winning layup with only one second remaining.

Boston's 108-107 victory turned out to be a very important point in the series.

Entering Game 5, the series was tied at two games apiece. Boston would go on to win the series in seven games but wound up losing in six games to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1987 NBA Finals.
