Turkey's Twitter war: The president vs. everyone else

One evening in September, a newspaper editor in Turkey received an email from Twitter, warning that his account could be shut down. Someone had filed complaints about his tweets, but the email didn't say who it was. With the help of his attorney, however, he tracked the person down: It was a lawyer for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the country’s president


“They are trying to censure me,” the editor said to himself.


It was the latest case in a Twitter war that has seen Erdogan pitted against a wide array of enemies, including his political rivals, anti-government activists and sometimes even Twitter itself. Read more...
