Passengers push plane from ice after temperatures plunge in Russia

You may have had to push a car to get it going, but have you ever tried pushing a plane? That arduous task presented itself to passengers on a UTair flight in Russia's Krasnoyarsk region this week after their ride got stuck in ice.


After the plane, a 30-ton Tupolev 134, froze on the ground at Igarka airport in Siberia, many of the 70 passengers lined up along the wings to help it on its way. Breathing heavily into the freezing air, the group gradually shifted the plane backwards.



A hefty dose of machismo seemed to help the men — mostly oil and gas workers from the local production fields — in their mission. One man was heard saying, "Real men can plant a tree, build a house and push a plane," The Siberian Times reported. Read more...
