The messaging startup battle continues to heat up.
Kik Messenger announced on Wednesday that it has raised $38.3 million in funding to hire more engineering and business development staff, and to better compete against the growing number of messaging apps
Kik also announced that it had acquired Relay, an app for chatting with GIFs, marking the startup's first acquisition.
"Today, mobile users aren't searching for new apps — they're looking for richer engagement in the apps they already have," Ted Livingston, Kik founder and CEO, said in a statement.
