1790s Paris reborn through research in 'Assassin's Creed: Unity'

When you're running across crumbling rooftops in Paris, it's hard to stop and think about the historical accuracy of the setting around you. And when you're chasing your mark down tight, winding streets, rarely do you question whether the signs above you were the same ones Parisians saw over 200 years ago.


But details big and small matter to the developers of Assassin's Creed: Unity as they strove to recreate a 1790s Paris, complete with powder keg of events leading to the French Revolution



The French Revolution started as a revolt from the over-taxed French public, upset over a new set of taxes intended to help the country recoup its losses after its involvement in the American Revolution. The ideas of the Enlightenment, particularly that a country could exist without a religious monarch, were beginning to take hold.
