She Wrote This Song 15 Years Ago. It's Eerie How Perfect The Words Are For What's Happening Today.

There have been a string of killings involving unarmed black people, most recently in Ferguson, Missouri. The incident has led to a military-like assault by police in response to community-wide protests.

People in communities all across the country are watching in horror, and they are fed up. Songs like this should be the soundtrack to that fight for justice. Press play. Repeat.

This is a classic Lauryn Hill song from her live MTV Unplugged 2.0 album and performance. She wrote it in response to the horrifying killing of Amadou Diallo. In the full, longer video of this live performance, she explains her non-violent definition of "rebel."
