St. Louis Cardinals reliever Pat Neshek made his first National League All-Star team this year while wearing No. 41, but he isn't too concerned about the number being a lucky charm.
The Cardinals acquired right-hander John Lackey at the 2014 MLB trade deadline. Given that he has worn No. 41 with every team he has been on (outside of 2010), the veteran was going to want it with his new squad. The only problem is that Neshek was wearing the number at the time of the trade.
We have seen players buy numbers from teammates or give them expensive gifts. Lackey found a way to do something pretty cool by giving Neshek a Babe Ruth-autographed baseball.
Some players may prefer money, but Neshek was won over by an awesome collectible. Getting the autographed baseball made the switch from No. 41 to No. 37 totally worth it to Neshek.
