A Little Pink House for Afghanistan's 'Torturer in Chief'

Before he wound up in a pink, two-story stucco house outside of Los Angeles, Haji Gulalai was arguably the most feared torturer in Afghanistan.


A Washington Post article published Monday names Gulalai as the instigator of torture at multiple Afghan prisons. He reportedly rose through the ranks to become a prominent member of the National Directorate of Security, Afghanistan's version of the Central Intelligence Agency


Then, in 2009, after multiple attempts on his life, he vanished, only to reappear in the United States. American governmental agencies deny helping a known torturer resettle in the U.S. But if they didn't, how did he get here? Read more...
