Today, the price of a new car is out of reach for many people. Fortunately, there are thousands of good used cars on the market. However, you’ll need to have any used car you’re thinking of buying checked out by your mechanic before you buy. If your mechanic finds any serious problems, you’ll either need to renegotiate the price or move on.
What Do You Need Out of Your Car?
Also, before you buy a used car, think about what you really need out of it. Are you looking for a daily commuter car or something to take you on weekend adventures? Once you pinpoint the type of vehicle you need, do your research. Look online for reviews of the various makes and models, and choose the top two or three to begin your search.
Daily Commuter Cars
A small sedan with a great gas economy is a smart choice for your daily commute. You might even consider a gas/electric hybrid, or even an EV. But, whatever your choice, it should have a comfortable interior with a nice infotainment system. Not only will this system keep you entertained while stuck in traffic, but it will also give you hands-free access to make calls, send text messages, and check your email.
SUVs for the Weekend Warrior
If you’re looking for a used vehicle to take you on weekend adventures, consider getting an all-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive vehicle. Crossover and full-sized SUVs are good options for weekend camping, fishing, and hiking trips. However, if you plan to tow a trailer, you’ll need a larger SUV with a tow package. Also, make sure the SUV you choose has the right towing capacity for your trailer.
Working Vehicles
Vans and pickup trucks are good options for contractors and small business owners. Be sure to have any truck or van thoroughly inspected before you buy it. Major repairs not only create unwanted downtime but also add to your monthly expenses. Buying a certified used van or truck is a good option since it will still be under the original manufacturer’s warranty.
Used Nissans
If you’re looking for a commuter sedan or a compact SUV, consider a used Nissan. Nissan has an exceptional reputation for quality, and most used Nissans are packed with all of the options you want and need. For example, a used Nissan Rogue Sport fits the bill as both a commuter car and a small, all-wheel-drive SUV for the weekend.
Buying the right used car requires research on your part. Also, you will need to have it checked by a mechanic before you buy. But, a good used car will last you for many years.
