Passengers on a United Airlines flight to Sydney, Australia, from San Francisco were stranded on a tarmac in Canberra because of runway debris at Sydney Airport
Flight UA863 spent eight hours in Canberra — an approximately three-hour drive from Sydney — with passengers stranded on the runway because customs and immigration regulations prohibited them from entering the airport. The journey, from California Wednesday night to Sydney Friday evening, took a total of 20 hours.
While United initially kept the passengers on the plane, they were eventually allowed to get off to stretch their legs. However, they weren't allowed to leave the immediate area. Read more...
