Sexual assault reports within U.S. military rise in 2014

Sexual assault reports within the United States military increased in 2014, according to a new survey released on Thursday by the Department of Defense


Reports rose because military personnel have more confidence in the reporting system, and not because the number of sexual assaults is growing, according to the department. This new information comes just days after New York Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand began pushing for a bill that would remove commanders from the oversight process in military sexual assault cases.
