NFL Explains Referees' Fist Bump After Broncos TD vs. Bills

Anyone who was watching the Buffalo Bills-Denver Broncos game Sunday may have noticed a questionable celebration—by the referees.

Denver running back C.J. Anderson scored a one-yard touchdown in the second quarter to give his team a 14-3 lead. Anderson and the Broncos had reason to celebrate, but it was a bit strange that the referees decided to bump fists after the play.

Bills safety Aaron Williams saw what the refs did and didn't think it was appropriate.

However, the NFL didn't have an issue with the fist bump.

"It was an acknowledgment of good mechanics between the two officials involved in making the call," NFL spokesman Michael Signora said, per ESPN.com.

It sounds like one ref apparently thought the other did a good job in signaling a touchdown. If that's the case, just use words. A gesture like this could look a bit shady to the Bills and to viewers.

Denver held on for a 24-17 victory over Buffalo.
