Doug McDermott's rookie campaign suffered a major setback on Friday.
Nick Friedell of ESPNChicago.com reported that the Chicago Bulls small forward will have an "arthroscopic procedure" on his right knee, with no timetable set for his potential return:
The Bulls later confirmed the news.
Much is expected of McDermott this year after Chicago traded both of its 2014 first-round picks to the Denver Nuggets for the former Creighton star. He's supposed to be the three-point shooter who adds range to the Bulls offense and takes some pressure off of Derrick Rose.
However, McDermott's failed for the most part to crack head coach Tom Thibodeau's rotation, averaging 3.2 points in 11.6 minutes a night. In terms of player efficiency rating, only Cameron Bairstow ranks lower than McDermott, according to Basketball-Reference.
This injury only compounds what's been a frustrating season for the 22-year-old.
