Bayern Munich opened a 12-point lead in the Bundesliga on Tuesday as they downed Freiburg in the penultimate match of their fall campaign. The German record champions have only Mainz to face on Friday before they are able to take a long-awaited and well-deserved winter break.
The visitors, meanwhile, slumped to 17th in the league table.
Goals from Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller shortly before and after the half-time break ensured a rather comfortable win for Bayern. But not all was rosy for the winners, who were forced to make several substitutions due to injuries. And not all was sorrow and misery for Freiburg, who in Roman Burki had a real stalwart in goal.
