American Apparel announced Tuesday that it has terminated its controversial founder and CEO Dov Charney "for cause" and appointed its first female CEO to take over in early January.
Charney had been ousted by the board in June amid an investigation into "alleged misconduct." Over the years, Charney has been accused of sexual harassment multiple times and choking a store manager. He fought the decision and continued to serve as a consultant to the company
That relationship is now over.
"Under terms of an agreement signed by Mr. Charney on July 9, a special committee of the Board oversaw an internal investigation conducted by FTI Consulting into the allegations against Mr. Charney," the retailer explained in a statement on its website. "Based on this investigation, the special committee determined that it would not be appropriate for Mr. Charney to be reinstated as CEO or an officer or employee of the Company." Read more...
