As the Los Angeles Dodgers attempt to maintain their grip on the National League West, they may be without Hyun-Jin Ryu.
The Dodgers announced that the left-handed starter exited Friday night's game against the San Francisco Giants after suffering from shoulder inflammation in his throwing arm:

Before leaving the game, Ryu surrendered four runs on five hits in one inning pitched. Molly Knight believed that his poor performance clearly illustrated something was wrong:
Ryu entered the night with a 14-6 record. The 27-year-old has been one of L.A.'s steadier starters throughout 2014. His 2.59 FIP was second on the team behind Clayton Kershaw among the team's starting pitchers, according to Baseball-Reference.com.
Los Angeles is clinging to a two-game lead over the Giants, which will obviously change with the result of Friday's game. In order to continue pushing for the division, the Dodgers can't afford to be without a pitcher of Ryu's ability.
Looking ahead to the postseason, missing Ryu would also put a dent in Los Angeles' World Series hopes. It's not the kind of injury that erases the Dodgers' chances altogether, but it would make the task that much harder.
