BERLIN — After Samsung announced its Gear S smartwatch late last month, members of the press finally got their hands on the company's third-generation smartwatch this week at its Unpacked 2 event in New York, Beijing and Berlin.
The Gear S, which runs on Samsung's Tizen operating system, is as smart as smartwatches come these days: It has built-in 3G (or 2G) connectivity, so you don't need to wirelessly tether to a nearby smartphone to get emails, calendar alerts or other notifications sent to the device's screen.
The first thing you'll notice is the device's gorgeous 2-inch SuperAMOLED screen with 360 x 480 resolution; it's pretty big for a smartwatch, and so is the wristband.
