Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig exited Saturday's game against the Colorado Rockies after suffering a hip flexor strain, the team announced:
The injury came in the top of the fourth inning when Puig was sliding into second to try and break up a double play. He attempted to enter the game in the bottom of the fifth inning but was subsequently replaced by Scott Van Slyke.
The Dodgers had terrible luck on Saturday, as they also lost Dee Gordon, who is listed as day-to-day as well, per Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times:
Puig has been the Dodgers' best offensive player in 2014. Heading into the weekend, his .336 batting average and 40 runs batted in were first on the team, while his 11 home runs were one behind Adrian Gonzalez.
Since he'll only be day-to-day, it would appear that the injury isn't significant. That's at least good news for Los Angeles as it tries to close the 8.5-game deficit between it and the Colorado Rockies.
The sooner Puig is back, the sooner the Dodgers can strengthen their postseason chances.
